The Chew: Acorn Squash Goat Cheese Tart Recipe Ingredients

Carla Hall’s Acorn Squash Goat Cheese Tart is not only a beautiful fall dish, but it’s tasty enough to have your friends begging for the recipe! (_____satoshi / Flickr)
- 2 tsp water
- 2 tbsp flour – to roll out the pastry
- 1 small red onion – peeled, 1/4-inch thick half moons
- 1/4 C olive oil
- kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1 egg
- 1 sheet puff pastry – thawed
- 1 small acorn squash – halved, seeds removed, 1/4-inch thick half moons
- 2 cloves garlic – peeled, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
For the Goat Cheese Filling:
- 2 tsp sage leaves – chopped
- kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1 C goat cheese – softened
- 5 tbsp olive oil
The Chew: Acorn Squash Goat Cheese Tart Recipe Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
- In a small bowl, add the egg and water, then whisk
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry out to 1/8-inch thick
- Cut a 1/2-inch strip off the sides of the rectangle
- Brush the edges of the rectangle with the egg wash mixture, then put the 1/2-inch strips on top of the edges to make a crust
- Brush the whole art with the egg wash, then poke all over with a fork
- On a different baking sheet, add the acorn squash, garlic, and onions
- Drizzle with olive oil, add some red pepper flakes, then sprinkle with salt and pepper
- Toss to combine
- Put the tart and the acorn squash baking sheets in the oven and bake for 15 minutes
- Remove and let the tart shell to cool
For the Goat Cheese Filling:
- In a medium bowl, add the sage, goat cheese, and olive oil, then mix to combine
- Season with salt and pepper, then set aside
To Assemble:
- Carefully spread the goat cheese filling in an even layer in the middle of the cooled pastry
- Add the roasted garlic and onions
- Shingle the squash in two rows on top of the onions and garlic
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature
