Who doesn’t love brunch? You can eat both breakfast and lunch at the same time, and it’s an excuse to have a cocktail early in the day! Daphne Oz wanted to kicked off the brunch-themed episode of The Chew with a recipe that’s great for making ahead of time and freezing until it’s time to serve them. Her Guava-Cheese Hand Pie Bites are perfect for people of all ages and, if you ask me, make for the perfect bite to enjoy with a warm cup of coffee!

The Chew: Guava-Cheese Hand Pie Bites Recipe Ingredients

Daphne Oz’s Guava-Cheese Hand Pies are perfect to make ahead of time or even the morning of your brunch with friends and family. (grongar / Flickr)
- 1/2 C guava paste (4-oz)
- 1 sheet puff pastry – thawed
- flaky sea salt – to garnish
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 C flour – for dusting
- 1/2 C cream cheese (4-oz)
The Chew: Guava-Cheese Hand Pie Bites Recipe Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- In a small bowl, beat the egg with 1 tsp of water, then set aside
- Put the puff pastry on a floured cutting board and slightly roll out with a rolling pin to make a 10-inch by 10-inch square
- Cut the puff pastry sheets into 2-inch by 2-inch squares to make 25 total squares
- Use a fork to poke the dough
- Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the puff pastry square with egg wash
- Put 1 tsp of cream cheese in the middle of the lower half of the square
- Top with 1/2 tsp guava paste
- Fold the top over the bottom, then press to seal
- Use the prongs of a fork to seal the edges, then put the hand pies on the prepared baking sheet
- Right before baking, brush the top of each hand pie with the egg wash, then add a sprinkle of sea salt
- Bake until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes
- Let cool before eating
