Carla suggested hoarding oyster crackers you get from restaurants. But you can also find them in the grocery store, and they are an inexpensive snack idea, especially when you make them fancy, as Carla did.

Carla Hall found a way to use something you may have in your pantry but probably don’t often use: oyster crackers. Try her Sweet & Savory Cracker Snacks. (igboo / flickr)
- 8 cups Oyster Crackers
- 1 stick melted Unsalted Butter
Savory Cracker Ingredients
- 2 tsp Thyme leaves
- 1/2 tsp Chili Flakes
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
Sweet Cracker Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 2 tsp Thyme leaves
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Zest of 1 Lemon
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Carla Hall: The Chew Sweet & Savory Cracker Snacks Recipe Directions
- Preheat the oven at 325 F.
- Spread oyster crackers out evenly over two baking sheets.
- One one sheet, make the savory crackers. Add half of the butter.
- Sprinkle with thyme, chili flake, garlic powder, Parmesan, and salt. Toss the sheet to get an even coating over all the crackers.
- Transfer baking sheet to the oven and roast about 9 minutes, until toasted. Let cool out of the oven.
- For the sweet crackers, drizzle them with the remaining butter.
- In a bowl, combine sugar with thyme, vanilla, salt, and lemon zest.
- Use your fingers to blend this mixture together.
- Sprinkle the sweet seasoning over the crackers and toss.
- Transfer baking sheet to the oven and roast about 9 minutes, until toasted. Let cool out of the oven.
- You can serve the crackers mixed together, or keep them separate if you are sharing them with a picky eater.
