Carla put together Date and Walnut Snacks by making a sweet cream cheese filling to put inside dates before topping with delicious walnuts. This is a vegan recipe that you can easily customize to your liking, so if you need a healthier snack to reach for throughout the day, give this recipe a try!

The Chew: Date & Walnut Snack Recipe

Carla Hall shared a recipe for Date and Walnut Snacks to lighten up snack time. (drb62 / Flickr)

  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 12 dates – pitted, halved
  • 3 orange peels
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 C vegan cream cheese
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 24 shelled walnuts
  • 1 qt water

The Chew: Date & Walnut Snack Recipe Directions

For the Soaked Walnuts:

  1. In a large bowl, add the walnuts and 3 orange peels
  2. Pour room temperature water over the walnuts to cover
  3. Add salt and stir to mix and dissolve
  4. Let soak for an hour

For the Snack:

  1. In a small bowl, add vegan cream cheese, honey, and cinnamon, then mix
  2. Use a piping bag to fill the date halves with the cream cheese mixture
  3. Put one soaked walnut into each date half
